FAQs
What are executions (and why are they more powerful than on other products)?
Executions are much more powerful than the ‘operations’ or ‘tasks’ that you’re billed on in other products. An execution is a single run of your entire workflow. It doesn’t matter how many steps are in the workflow or how much data it processes — it’s still a single execution. This makes your usage more predictable than other tools where you pay individually for every step or task. Plus n8n workflows you can do things in a single execution that would take 10,000 operations in other tools.
What’s the difference between active workflows and test workflows?
Active workflows are ones that are turned on and running automatically (e.g. listening for events or polling a service). They’re usually ones you’ve finished building and just want to let run. Test workflows aren’t running automatically yet, perhaps because they’re still being built or they were an experiment. They are triggered by clicking a button in n8n, rather than running automatically. Only active workflows count towards your plan limits.
Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
Of course. Just log in to your admin panel and click ‘Cancel subscription’.
Can I deploy n8n on-premise?
If you have more stringent data requirements, you can deploy n8n on-premise in your own VPC. The recommended setup is via Docker and takes about 15 mins to get going. It’s possible to run n8n air-gapped (without any external data connectivity).
What are the performance limits of n8n?
It depends on the plan that you choose and the types of workflows you run. We provide [benchmarking tools](https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n-benchmarking) so you can find the answer for your exact use case. A single instance of n8n can process up to [220 executions per second](https://docs.n8n.io/hosting/scaling/performance-benchmarking), depending on the resources it has. For self-hosted plans, multi-instance setups can take this number even higher.
Is n8n secure? Where is my data stored?
For hosted plans, data is stored within the EU — on servers located in Frankfurt, Germany. For self-hosted plans, it’s wherever you decide to host n8n. We take privacy and security extremely seriously. You can read more about our approach [here](https://docs.n8n.io/privacy-security)
