Quilter is an AI-powered PCB design automation tool that helps engineers design circuit boards faster and more efficiently. It handles the entire design process, from component placement and routing to stackup definition and optimization. It's compatible with popular ECAD tools like Altium and KiCad and generates multiple design candidates that meet DRC requirements and manufacturer tolerances. Currently free during open beta, Quilter aims to drastically reduce the time and cost of PCB design.

How is Quilter different from an autorouter?
Quilter is more like a human designer than an autorouter. It manages all aspects of PCB design, including routing traces, placing components, managing board stackups, and generating custom pours. It can design far more complex boards than most autorouters, explores hundreds of design possibilities, and validates the best candidates against tolerances from top fabricators.
What boards can Quilter layout?
Currently, Quilter is best for boards with <2000 pins, <500 components, <20% density, <10 layers, <6GHz signals, and <4A current. In the long term, we will support every type of board.
How does Quilter handle design rules?
Quilter simultaneously evaluates designs against 10 rulesets and recommends the most conservative one that reaches 100% routing with 0 DRC violations. These rulesets come directly from PCB manufacturers including JLPCB, OSHPark, and PCBWay.
How long does Quilter take to complete a design?
Using reinforcement learning, Quilter explores your board’s design space and learns from millions of possibilities. The first successful layout candidate appears in 1-2 hours; fully exploring all candidates takes 2-6 hours, with a 12-hour timeout. You can review candidates before the job finishes; we notify you by email when a successful candidate or job completion occurs.
How long will Quilter’s open beta last?
We do not have a fixed end date for Quilter’s open beta program. While Quilter is in Open Beta, expect that the capabilities of Quilter’s product may change often and without notice. We may decide to transition to General Availability without advanced notice, which may materially change the capabilities of our Free usage tier.
Will Quilter be expensive to use in general availability?
Our intention is to make Quilter meaningfully cheaper than the equivalent cost of insourced and outsourced PCB design labor, but do not have any specific pricing details to share at this time.
Are there any usage restrictions for Quilter’s designs?
Quilter’s design agent is not trained on any IP-sensitive materials, and designs that Quilter generates do not come with any warranty or restrictions on personal or commercial use.
