PHYRE is a benchmark for physical reasoning that contains a set of simple classical mechanics puzzles in a 2D environment. It is designed to encourage the development of sample-efficient learning algorithms that generalize well across puzzles. In PHYRE, puzzles involve an initial state and a goal state, where the goal is typically for a green object to touch a blue or purple object. Agents solve puzzles by placing red objects in the scene to achieve the goal. The benchmark provides task templates, which define sets of related tasks by varying parameters. These templates are used to measure an agent’s generalization ability in within-template and cross-template settings. It's an open-source project from Facebook Research.
