About
North is a comprehensive OKR and strategy management platform designed to help organizations transition from simply completing tasks to achieving specific, measurable business outcomes. It serves as a centralized hub for defining company vision, setting organizational and team-level goals, and tracking the granular initiatives required to meet them. By focusing on the Outcome over Output philosophy, North provides a structured framework for data-driven companies to maintain clarity and strategic focus across all levels of the hierarchy, ensuring that every project contributes directly to high-level business targets. The platform operates through a nested architecture that connects high-level strategy to daily work through three main pillars: Strategy, Goals, and Initiatives. Teams can create Key Results tied to specific target metrics, allowing for real-time visibility into progress and pacing. A core differentiator is the Initiatives system, where specific projects are prioritized and tracked based on their potential impact on key results. The software includes several operational tools such as weekly check-ins to maintain momentum, goal alignment visualizations to prevent silos, and a unique Give Awards feature designed to celebrate team wins and improve employee engagement. North is particularly well-suited for remote-first organizations, fast-growing startups, and non-profits that have outgrown the limitations of spreadsheets or found enterprise software too cumbersome for pure strategy tracking. It bridges the gap between high-level executive planning and ground-level execution, making it a valuable tool for CEOs, product managers, and operations leads who need to communicate the big picture. The system supports both public and private teams, ensuring that sensitive strategic goals remain confidential while encouraging transparency across the broader organization for general operational targets. What distinguishes North from other OKR tools is its emphasis on a lightweight, fast-to-onboard user experience combined with deep features like custom fields and multiple workspaces. It functions as both a software tool and an educational resource, providing an extensive library of OKR methodologies, department-specific templates, and an OKR Quiz to assess an organization's maturity. This holistic approach ensures that users are not just entering data into a tool, but are also mastering the underlying management frameworks necessary for long-term organizational success.

The free plan allows for a total of 5 goals and up to 50 initiatives across all teams within the organization. These limits only apply to active items and do not include archived goals or initiatives.
Does North offer discounts for nonprofits or startups?
Yes, North provides an 80% discount to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits and early-stage startups less than two years old with under $1m in ARR. Interested organizations can apply by emailing their documentation to hello@thenorth.io.
What happens if I add a team member in the middle of a billing cycle?
North charges a prorated amount for that member based on the number of days left until the plan renews. The system checks for these changes at the end of every month and charges the card on file accordingly.
