How will I help build Generative AI?
Depending on your expertise, you might generate or rank prompts, improve AI-generated outputs, or complete other tasks that enhance model performance. Available projects may vary and might not always match your specific area of expertise.
How long will this opportunity last?
Our projects vary in length; however, the demand for Generative AI contributions is increasing rapidly, and we don’t anticipate this slowing down in the foreseeable future, so there should frequently be projects available for you to work on.
I am a student, can I work at Outlier?
Yes, as long as you meet these requirements: You’re of legal working age in your country. If you’re on a visa, it must allow you to work.
What qualifications do I need?
We’re looking for people with: Professional expertise in their domain At least junior or senior undergraduate standing, preferably a graduate degree in the relevant field or a related subject A strong command of written English If you don’t see any available projects after signing up and completing the onboarding process, it might be because your background doesn’t match the current opportunities.
Can I refer friends?
Yes! Once you’ve submitted 11 deliverable tasks or more, you’ll unlock a referral section on your dashboard to share the opportunity with others.
How much will I be paid?
There are two main types of pay for work completed on our platform: 1. Pay per hour: You are compensated for the time spent on each task. This is the most common pay structure on our platform. 2. Pay per task: You receive a flat rate for each task submitted, regardless of how long it takes. You will always see the pay rate and structure for each project before you start any work on it, allowing you to decide whether to accept or decline the project based on this information. Pay rates and structures can vary depending on factors such as your expertise, the project requirements, and your location. Specialized projects may offer higher rates, but please remember that available projects may not always align with your area of expertise.
Are there opportunities to earn more?
Some projects may also offer additional rewards based on specific outcomes, like completing a certain number of tasks on a given timeline. These offers depend on customer demand, so they may not always be available for all contributors working on a project, and some projects may never offer them. Additionally, you may be offered incentives to invite others to join Outlier.
When and how will I be paid?
Payments are processed weekly on Tuesdays, covering tasks completed during the previous pay period (Tuesday to Monday at midnight UTC). Payments are made via PayPal, AirTM, or ACH transfer.
Will I get paid for the onboarding process?
The onboarding phase isn’t paid; however, it’s required to move onto paid project work.
What do I need to sign up for this opportunity?
To join, you’ll need: A valid ID and mobile phone from your country of residence. An up-to-date resume that highlights your expertise. A LinkedIn profile showing your educational background and work experience.
What does the onboarding process look like?
Before being matched with projects, you need to verify your identity and phone number, link your LinkedIn account, and submit your resume. This process helps us ensure that all contributors have the expertise they claim. Once you complete these steps, you will be eligible for project matching. All projects on the platform have two main stages: qualification and tasking. During the qualification stage, you will review the project guidelines and complete assessment tasks to demonstrate your expertise and understanding. After passing the assessments, you will progress to the tasking stage, where you can work on deliverable tasks and start earning money.
How long does the onboarding take?
The initial onboarding process lasts less than an hour, followed by project-specific onboarding that usually takes one to two hours, depending on the project's complexity.
Will I be an Outlier employee?
No—you’ll join Outlier as a freelancer/independent contractor, not an employee.
Are there any benefits offered?
Traditional benefits (like health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, or overtime pay) aren’t available for independent contractors. However, the freedom to work on your schedule is a major perk!
