About
DCON (Deep Learning Contest) is an annual competition for KOSEN (Colleges of Technology) students in Japan, challenging them to create innovative products and services by integrating 'monozukuri' (craftsmanship) with deep learning. Projects are evaluated on their 'business viability' by venture capitalists, with the highest enterprise valuation winning. DCON provides comprehensive support, including educational programs, business plan guidance from entrepreneurs, and post-contest incubation for start-ups. This support includes funding (up to 2 million JPY per company, 100 million JPY total over 10 years) and business mentoring, which has already led to the creation of six DCON start-ups. The contest aims to combine Japan's manufacturing prowess with AI, fostering talent in mechanical, electrical, and deep learning to generate new value and solve societal issues.
