About
KommuAssist is a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) designed to elevate the driving experience with features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). It consists of plug-and-play hardware, KommuAssist 2.0, which boasts a 6 TOPS NPU and three automotive-grade cameras for real-time vision inference. The system runs on bukapilot v10, a community-driven, open-source AI model with over 100 million miles of driving data, capable of understanding road conditions, slowing for curves, and spotting traffic lights. KommuAssist is safety-focused, compliant with ISO26262 and MISRA C, and is compatible with a growing list of car models, including Perodua, Proton, Honda, Toyota, BYD, and Lexus. It does not require permanent car modification and does not void car warranties.

What is KommuAssist?
KommuAssist is a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) to enable Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) features. It uses plug and play hardware and AI software (bukapilot).
Can I drive handsfree and legsfree with KommuAssist?
Drivers may temporarily remove hands/feet but must remain focused and ready to disengage the system. It disengages when the brake pedal is pressed.
Do I have to pay attention while KommuAssist is engaged?
Yes, full attention is required as it is an assistance system, and the driver holds responsibility and liability for driving.
Is my car compatible with KommuAssist?
It aims to support most Perodua, Proton, Honda, and Toyota models in Malaysia. Check the latest supported vehicle list on GitHub.
Will the car’s original safety features still work after installing KommuAssist?
Yes. The installed hardware will not replace or restrict the functions of the car’s original safety features.
Does installing KommuAssist require permanent modification to the car?
No. The hardware and connectors are plug and play (retrofit) and can be easily removed.
How to update the latest version of bukapilot?
bukapilot is on GitHub. Users will be notified in their KommuVision device when a new version is available for update.
Will the KommuAssist system get long term software and firmware support?
All hardware will receive software and firmware updates for at least 1 year after the launch of the latest generation.
Will my current insurance cover my car with KommuAssist installed?
It should not void coverage as bukapilot features are similar to stock L2 autonomous features. Contact your insurer for confirmation.
Will installing KommuAssist void your car warranty?
No. It is a plug and play system, so no wires are cut, and it will not void your car warranty. Installation only requires unplugging/plugging connectors.
Is KommuAssist legally certified with Malaysia's local road authority JPJ?
There's no policy yet on autonomous driving systems, but Kommu is working with MyAV committee (MOT, JPJ, MARii, MIROS) to form a policy.
