About
Andrew M. Olney is a Professor in the Institute for Intelligent Systems and Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and has over 100 publications in artificial intelligence, education, and psychology. His research focuses on natural language processing to assess and enhance learning from text and through conversation, particularly in conversational intelligent tutoring systems. He has been an investigator on $18M in federal grants. His primary research interests include natural language interfaces, language and knowledge acquisition (human and AI), and applications in learning and performance support systems. His work also encompasses computational representations of meaning, dyadic interaction, and engagement. He teaches classes in cognitive science and computational modeling, and mentors graduate students. Dr. Olney has also served as an editor for prominent journals in educational data mining and AI in education.
