What are the system requirements for Dictation?
Dictation requires the Google Chrome browser on Windows PC, Mac OS X, or Linux. It also works inside Chrome on Android, but desktop is recommended. It is not compatible with iPhone or iPad.
Does Dictation support my native language?
Yes, Dictation can understand spoken words in many popular languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Tamil, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, and Kannada.

By default, Dictation saves text locally. However, you can choose to publish your text to the Internet via Gist from GitHub, accessible through a secret URL.
Dictation is not working for me. What could be wrong?
Ensure you're in Google Chrome with your microphone on and an internet connection. Close other tabs using speech recognition and make sure you've granted microphone access permission.
How do I unblock my microphone to use Dictation again?
While on the Dictation website, click the camera icon in the address bar and select 'Always allow'. Alternatively, go to chrome://settings/content/microphone and remove dictation.io from the Blocked list.
What is your privacy policy? Is my data safe?
Dictation stores all data locally in your browser. Only your speech is sent to Google servers via Chrome over HTTPS for recognition, and the transcribed text is output in your browser.
Can speech recognition work offline?
No, Dictation relies on Google's cloud-based speech recognition engine, so an active internet connection is required for transcription.
