Noida-based deep-tech drone and aerial robotics firm, EndureAir Systems, has secured ₹25 crore (approximately $2.85 million) in a new funding round led by IAN Alpha Fund, with participation from the IAN Angel Fund.[1][2] This capital infusion is earmarked to enhance the company's capabilities within the defense sector, facilitate its expansion into commercial enterprise markets, and accelerate the development of next-generation high-altitude logistics and advanced aerial robotics platforms.[1] The investment underscores a growing confidence in India's indigenous drone manufacturing ecosystem and highlights the critical role of AI-powered robotics in solving complex logistical and safety challenges.
Founded in 2018 by Dr. Abhishek, a professor of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur, along with his former students Rama Krishna and Chirag Jain, EndureAir has distinguished itself in a competitive market by developing both its hardware and software entirely in-house.[3][4] This integrated approach, backed by over 15 years of dedicated rotorcraft research and a portfolio of eight patents in flight dynamics and autonomy, sets the company apart from firms that primarily assemble drones from imported components.[1][5] The company's origins in the academic and research environment of IIT Kanpur have instilled a research-driven methodology, allowing for the creation of rugged, mission-ready Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) specifically tailored for India's challenging geographical and operational terrains.[4][6] This focus on foundational technology and self-reliance aligns with the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative, positioning EndureAir as a key player in the nation's push for technological sovereignty in the critical drone sector.[4][7]
The company’s flagship UAVs are already in active deployment across various demanding sectors, demonstrating tangible impact and innovative solutions for logistics and rescue operations.[2] The Sabal series, a family of heavy-lift logistics drones with payload capacities ranging from 10 to 70 kg, has proven its capabilities in high-altitude environments.[1] Notably, the Sabal 20, inspired by the tandem rotor design of the Chinook helicopter for enhanced stability and lifting power, has been officially inducted by the Indian Army's Eastern Command to transport essential supplies in remote and treacherous areas.[8][7] In the civilian domain, EndureAir's long-endurance UAV, Vibhram, was instrumental in Telangana's 'Medicine from the Sky' program, successfully delivering vaccines to remote communities.[3] The Alakh, a series of nano-UAVs, has been deployed in high-stakes rescue missions, including the Chamoli cloudburst, the Silkyara Tunnel collapse, and earthquake relief efforts in Turkey, providing critical situational awareness in disaster zones.[3][5] These real-world applications showcase the versatility and reliability of EndureAir's platforms.
The decision by IAN Alpha Fund to lead the funding round reflects a strategic bet on India's deep-tech potential. Sarika Saxena, Managing Partner at the fund, stated, “EndureAir embodies the very best of India's deep-tech potential. By transforming cutting-edge research into powerful, indigenous solutions, EndureAir is meeting critical needs in defence, enterprise and disaster response.”[2][3] IAN Alpha Fund, a SEBI-registered Category II Venture Capital fund, focuses on investing in innovative startups that are solving real-world problems with scalable, technology-driven business models.[9][7] The fund's investment philosophy centers around a unique "M3" model, providing not just Money, but also crucial Mentoring from seasoned entrepreneurs and Market Access through its extensive global network.[9] This holistic support system is designed to nurture early-stage companies and mitigate risks, a strategy validated by the low failure rates across the IAN Group's portfolio.[10]
Looking ahead, the infusion of capital will empower EndureAir to further its research and development, particularly in the realm of AI and aerial robotics. Co-founder and CEO Rama Krishna commented on the company's vision, stating, “As we continue to develop the next generation of deep-tech aerial robotics for the defense ecosystem, we are dedicated to promoting enterprise adoption of UAV technology.”[3] The company's roadmap includes the development of drones with heavier payload capacities and expanding its international footprint into markets in the Middle East, Europe, and North America.[11][6] This strategic expansion is not just about market growth, but about establishing India as a global leader in UAV innovation. As Krishna noted, "If we get it right, India can move from being a drone importer to becoming a global drone powerhouse."[8] The successful funding round for EndureAir is a significant step forward not only for the company but for the entire Indian drone industry, signaling a future where indigenous, AI-driven technology plays a pivotal role in national security, logistics, and humanitarian aid.
