About
UI Faces started in 2017 as a web app, using a custom-coded aggregator and Microsoft’s Face API to collect and categorize stock photos by attributes like age, emotion, and gender. This led to a Sketch plugin. The project gained Adobe's attention, resulting in the development of a popular UI Faces plugin for Adobe XD, which later underwent a significant overhaul in collaboration with Michael Reimer and J. de Freitas to improve user experience with a gallery for avatar selection. The journey continued with a Figma plugin, leveraging the same aggregator API, which became the most popular version. In 2023, the focus shifted to AI-generated avatars, moving away from aggregating third-party content.
