How does it work?
The app retrieves the currently selected text through the macOS clipboard and sends it to a large language model. The language model corrects the text and sends it back to the app, which replaces the selected text.
Is the app safe?
The app does not store any of your data. The text you correct is sent to the language model and replaced with the corrected version. The app is built with basic macOS tools and is 6 MB in size.
Can RewriteBar be used in any app and webpage?
Yes! The app works with any application you use, including websites, emails, and documents.
Is there a free trial?
Yes! You can try the app for free with 100 corrections. After that, you can purchase a subscription or a one-time license.
Can I get a refund?
Yes! You can request a refund within 7 days of your purchase. Reach out by email
Which languages are supported?
I tested the app with English and German, but it should work with any language that ChatGPT supports. If you have any issues with a specific language, please reach out by email
What do I get when I purchase?
After you buy, you will get an email with a download link and a license key. You can download the app and use the license key to activate it. The license key also gives you unlimited app updates.
Are there any additional costs?
There are no additional costs with the subscription plan. For the one-time license, you need to provide an OpenAI API key, which is charged by OpenAI depending on your usage.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription through the Subscription Portal page. Contact us via email if you have any questions.
Do I need a ChatGPT Plus subscription for RewriteBar?
No, you don't need a ChatGPT Plus subscription. The OpenAI API operates on a pay-as-you-go model, so you only pay for what you use. You can also use the RewriteBar backend.
Why does the app need accessibility permissions?
The app requires macOS accessibility permissions to retrieve the currently selected text and replace it with the corrected version. This enables it to work with any application you use. No data is stored.
How do I get an OpenAI API key?
Create an account on OpenAI and generate a new API key. You can also find setup instructions in our help center
What is the difference between the subscription and the one-time license?
The one-time license requires an OpenAI API key, which incurs usage-based charges from OpenAI. The subscription plan is a monthly billing option for users who prefer not to manage an OpenAI API key.
Is there a Windows version?
There will be no Windows version. The app is built with macOS tools and is not compatible with Windows, and there are no plans to make a Windows version. You can use this alternative for Windows: Grammarsen
