FAQs
Are banks required to provide refunds?
No. But they often do provide "good will" compensation. In our experience that ranges from 30-100% of fees incurred over the last 12 months based on any number of factors.
How long does it take to get a refund?
Many banks take 30 days for a claim to be reviewed and resolved. However, some banks could take longer. There's no need to follow up with us - we promise we're on top of it and will let you know the result as soon as we know.
Why don't banks and credit cards refund fees?
Typically speaking, refunds are given to customers who banks believe will be profitable in the future. There is generally no relationship between your past fee amount and the potential of your refund.
Where does my refund go?
Banks and credit cards always refund fees directly to the account where they were originally charged. No, you cannot "re-route" your refund to another bank, credit card, or account.
Does Recoup get my refunds?
No. Recoup never handles your money. If your bank or credit card refunds you, the monies go directly from your bank or credit card back into your account with that financial institution.
Can I file claims and get fees refunded on a closed account?
No. Banks and credit cards have no reason to refund fees to an already closed account.
Will filing a fee refund claim affect my credit?
No. Simply asking for a refund of fees is not reported to credit reporting agencies.
Will filing a fee refund claim affect my bank or credit card relationship?
No. Simply asking for a refund of fees is not going to harm your bank or credit card relationship.
My bank or credit card isn't listed on Plaid. Now what?
Unfortunately, we can only help if your financial institution is one of the 16,000+ listed on Plaid.
How do I add a bank or credit card?
Simply press the "+" button in the upper left hand corner of your Recoup feed.
Does Recoup get fees back from prepaid cards?
Yes. As long as they're listed in Plaid.
Why do I have to connect my email account?
By connecting your email account, Recoup can find digital receipts and opportunities for rebates, refunds, and rewards.
Does Recoup contact merchants on my behalf?
Yes, once you connect your email account, Recoup's software emails your merchants as if you. When enrolling in Recoup Rebates Back, you give Recoup authorization to do so.
Can I choose which merchants Recoup contacts?
Yes, at any time, you can pick and choose which merchants Recoup has permission to contact on your behalf.
How do I disconnect my email account?
If you want to disconnect your email account, simply go into Settings and select Connected Accounts. Then, select your email account that you've connected. You can then disconnect your email account.
