How does this work?
After setting your API key, PDF Pals is ready to help with any PDF document. Simply open your document with PDF Pals and start asking questions. Yes. It's that simple.
Yes but how does it really work?
It involves two steps: document ingestion and similarity search. During ingestion, relevant documents are provided to the model as training data. In similarity search, the model compares the user's query with the learned representation of the documents to retrieve relevant information. This enables the model to generate more informed responses by incorporating external knowledge.
What is the cost to process a 2,000-page PDF?
It costs nothing. All document processing is performed locally using an open-source embedding model. Chat with confidence!
Do you use my chat data for training?
No. We DO NOT store or analyze the content you type. We do not upload your documents to our server. Your OpenAI API key is securely stored in the Apple Keychain, which adheres to industry standard encryption methods. We also have no analytic tracking within the app. All data is kept locally on your machine, ensuring your privacy and peace of mind. Moreover, PDF Pals includes a built-in data detection feature that automatically redacts sensitive data such as email addresses, phone numbers, and credit card numbers.
Does PDF Pals support scanned PDFs?
Yes, PDF Pals employs Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to enhance its understanding and processing of scanned PDF documents.
Can I communicate in a different language other than English?
Absolutely. You are free to switch the output language at any point during the conversation. As a default setting, PDF Pal will always respond in the same language as your questions.
Can I chat with a different document type other than PDF?
You can only chat with PDF documents at the moment. We plan to support more document types in the future. Stay tuned.
Can I chat with a multiple PDFs?
Yes. It's really simple to chat with multiple documents with PDF Pals. Simply select your PDFs and then choose to open with PDF Pals.
Can I use PDF Pals without an OpenAI API key?
Yes, PDF Pals supports multiple API providers: OpenAI, Azure OpenAI Service and OpenRouter. You can also customize the API endpoint to your proxy server.
What are the requirements to use PDF Pals?
1. A macOS device. PDF Pals is currently exclusive to macOS and is compatible with macOS Ventura 13 or later. 2. An OpenAI API key or an OpenAI-compatible service. PDF Pals operates by connecting to OpenAI's GPT technology, and for this, you'll need your own OpenAI API key. You can obtain this by signing up on OpenAI's website. 3. Internet connection. As PDF Pals communicates with OpenAI's servers to generate responses, a stable internet connection is required for smooth operation.
Is PDF Pals available on Windows or Linux?
At this time, PDF Pals is exclusively available for macOS. We are always evaluating the needs of our users, so we may consider expanding to other platforms like Windows or Linux in the future.
How does license work?
The license is a perpetual license. One license key allows you to use the current app version indefinitely. You are also eligible for one year of free updates. If you don't want to renew your license after one year, you can continue to use the last version of PDF Pals that you have for as long as you want.
Can I use GPT-4?
Yes, as long as your API key has GPT-4 access. Alternatively, you can sign up for an account at openrouter.ai and enjoy using multiple models, including GPT-4, GPT-4 32K and Anthropic Claude v2
Do you provide discount for students and educators?
Yes, please send an email to help@pdfpals.com using your university email address for 50% off.
Can I get a refund?
This only applies for customers with a Pro License. If you're on an AppStore subscription, click here Yes, if you're on a Pro License. If for any reason you're not satisfied with your purchase, you can request a refund within 14 days of purchase. However, I do love to hear your feedback. Please send a refund request to help@pdfpals.com and I'll process it as soon as I can.
