PaLM-E is an embodied multimodal language model that incorporates real-world continuous sensor modalities into language models. It processes multi-modal sentences with visual, state estimation, and textual input encodings, trained end-to-end with a pre-trained large language model. PaLM-E addresses embodied reasoning tasks across various observation modalities and embodiments, demonstrating positive transfer through diverse joint training. It excels in sequential robotic manipulation planning, visual question answering, and captioning, achieving state-of-the-art performance on OK-VQA while retaining generalist language capabilities.
