How does HammerAI work?
HammerAI runs AI models locally on your computer. We are able to do this because models are [quantized](https://huggingface.co/docs/optimum/concept%5Fguides/quantization) to be smaller and faster to run. The drawback of this is that the quality may be somewhat lower than if you were running on a dedicated server with a larger machine, but the benefit is that, unlike ChatGPT and other services, with HammerAI everything is private.
What devices are supported?
For HammerAI Web you can use any browser with WebGPU support. Today this includes Chrome, Edge, and Opera desktop browsers. You can visit [caniuse.com](https://caniuse.com/webgpu) to track WebGPU support. For HammerAI Desktop we support MacOS (both Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows, and Ubuntu.
Is my chat private?
Yes, your chat is completely private - nothing about the conversation can leave your computer. Beyond just being private to your computer, we don't store the chat log beyond the time you have a chat with a Character open. This means if you close the application your chat is deleted and cannot be recovered. The only exception to this is if you are on a paid plan and explicitly save your chat.
How can I be sure that my chat is private?
You can verify this for yourself! Turn off the internet - you will still be able to chat.
Do I need to register or login?
No, there is no login. We do this to ensure complete privacy.
How can I edit the character I created?
When you create your character you will be given a secret key for it. This lets you prove to the HammerAI servers that you can edit this character. For HammerAI Web you'll be given this key in a URL that you should save. For HammerAI Desktop this key is saved on your computer (in the HammerAI app that you download). In the future we will add the ability to import / export this secret in case you want to change computers.
Is it free?
Chatting with unlimited characters with any AI model is 100% free. The only feature you can pay for is saving conversations, which is part of the Pro tier.
How do you make money?
You can support us on [Gumroad!](https://hammerai.gumroad.com/l/store) We will never charge for access to core features, collect user data, or sell user data.
What content is allowed?
We respect people's tastes and are okay with NSFW content. However, there is some content which is illegal, against the Terms of Service, and will be removed immediately: * Child pornography * Sexualized depictions of minors * Heavy gore * Bestiality * Sexual violence * Any other illegal content Please help us by reporting such content if you see it.
My character was posted here without my permission. Can you help me remove it?
Yes, we would love to help. Click here to submit feedback - please include the character name, a link to your original character elsewhere, and a message saying you'd like this character removed.
Why do characters forget things?
Characters may appear to forget things if those things haven't been mentioned recently, as they can only consider a limited amount of conversation context. However, we are currently working on expanding this context to minimize such instances of forgetfulness.
