What information is Flint pulling from, and how recent is its knowledge?
Flint uses Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which has been trained on a large set of public and licensed data. Additionally, Flint has web search functionality, meaning the AI can search the web for sources to augment its responses. This means that Flint effectively has no knowledge cut-off. Additionally, teachers can provide Flint with any number of sources (PDFs, slides, links, etc.) to pull from. When teachers provide the AI with materials, the AI prioritizes pulling from those materials.
How accurate is Flint? Does it hallucinate?
Flint uses Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which has scored a 94th percentile on the SAT and 90th percentile on the Uniform Bar Exam. Additionally, because the AI on Flint can search the web for up-to-date sources, it’s much more accurate than most AI systems. Teachers can further ensure accuracy by providing their own sources for the AI to pull from.
Can teachers and students give Flint source material to pull from?
Yes, teachers can upload any type of text-based document (PDF, PowerPoint, Word, etc.), website, YouTube video, or code snippet for the AI to pull from. Students also have the ability to provide the AI with sources when in a session.
How does Flint do on math?
Flint has access to a powerful calculator under the hood, which it uses to ensure accuracy on even the most complex math problems, similar to a human tutor verifying work with a calculator. Flint can also graph equations on 2D or 3D planes to visualize math problems, or help in visualizing simple datasets.
What happens if students try to discuss inappropriate or harmful topics with the AI?
If a student brings up an inappropriate or harmful topic with the AI, the AI will not engage in that conversation and will steer the topic back to the academic subject at hand. Additionally, Flint provides school administrators with full visibility into every message sent back and forth between students and the AI.

Can students under the age of 13 use Flint? How do you ensure COPPA compliance?
Yes, students under the age of 13 can use Flint. There are no restrictions on the age of users. COPPA compliance can be ensured if your school has a technology waiver in place that parents sign to give administrators the right to choose which tools students can use. We are happy to review the language in your school’s waiver to confirm whether the use of Flint would be COPPA-compliant.
Is any user data used to train the AI?
No. Flint does not use any user data for training or fine-tuning AI models.
Can teachers upload copyrighted content into Flint?
Yes. Because Flint does not use user data to train AI models, copyrighted information (e.g. a textbook chapter) can be uploaded into Flint when creating or interacting with the AI.
Can you sign a data processing agreement (DPA) for our school, state, region, or country?
Yes. We have already signed state DPAs in Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. If your state is not covered or if you have custom requirements, reach out to us at sales@flintk12.com.
Does Flint have support for text-to-speech and speech-to-text? How accurate is it?
Yes, Flint supports both text-to-speech and speech-to-text in 50+ languages. Flint uses Google text-to-speech, so the voice sounds nearly identical to that of Google Translate. For speech-to-text, Flint has 98.5% accuracy.

How does Flint accommodate students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences?
By default, Flint automatically adjusts to a students learning level. If a student is struggling with a reading, the AI can level it for them automatically. If a student is stuck on a problem, the AI can break it down for them without giving away the answer. The language level as well as helpfulness level of the AI can be customized by the teacher. Does Flint work for elementary school? What’s the lowest grade that Flint can be used for?
Yes, Flint works for elementary school students. There is no minimum age requirement, and the language level and content difficulty of the AI can be set to as low as 1st grade. That said, most K-12 schools use Flint in grades 3 and up.
How much does Flint cost? Is it based on the number of students?
Flint is free for up to 80 users (users can be students, teachers, or administrators). Paid plans cover access for a greater number of users. Paid plans for Flint can purchased on an annual or a month-to-month basis, and include unlimited professional development (PD) sessions for faculty.
