What is DeepAffex®?

DeepAffex® is NuraLogix's cloud-based platform for assessing physiological health that uses facial blood-flow data captured using Transdermal Optical Imaging™. DFX is an acronym for DeepAffex® that we sometimes in our documentation.

What is Anura® Lite?

Anura® Lite is a wellness app powered by DeepAffex® that uses a phone's selfie camera to measure and keep a record of health indicators based on the blood flow in the face. You can download Anura® Lite from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store.

What is Transdermal Optical Imaging™?

Transdermal Optical Imaging™ (TOI) is a imaging technology by NuraLogix® that uses a digital camera and advanced image processing to extract facial blood-flow data from a human subject.

How does Transdermal Optical Imaging™ work?

Human skin is translucent and light of various wavelengths reflects from different layers below the skin. As your heart beats, blood perfuses under the skin of your face and subtly changes its color. Transdermal Optical Imaging™ (as a component of an app like Anura®) detects this facial blood-flow information from a selfie camera's video stream. The app then sends this encrypted blood-flow information to the DeepAffex®Cloud for analysis. The DeepAffex® Cloud uses advanced signal processing and AI models to estimate your heart rate and other biosignals, then sends these results back.

What is Affective Ai™?

The term "Affective Ai™" refers to the ability of a computing device to detect, measure and analyze human physiological states which directly affect their quality of life. We make AI affective (and effective!) to improve the lives of the people and hence, it's a different kind of AI. The DeepAffex® Cloud runs on Affective Ai™.

How can I integrate DeepAffex® into my app?

You can integrate DeepAffex® into your app by using our SDKs or Services. There are solutions for different platforms - mobile, web, and desktop.

Where can I see the list of available biosignals that DeepAffex® can provide?

A growing listing of biosignals (called DeepAffex® Points) can be reviewed in the Points Reference.

Can you restrict data storage on DeepAffex® to a region or a country?

The DeepAffex® Cloud is a connected mesh of distributed clusters, each of which is hosted within a specific geographic region of the globe. In most cases, we are able to satisfy regional requirements for data localization and processing of customer traffic.

Why does TOI® need a face-tracker? Do you perform facial recognition?

Transdermal Optical Imaging™ uses facial landmarks provided by a face-tracker to identify relevant regions of interest on the face where blood-flow information is extracted from. Please note that the face-tracker is not used to recognize or identify the subject in any way - facial recognition is not performed.

What kind of user information is needed during measurements and why? Can I measure without providing this information?

The DeepAffex® Cloud can use additional information about the user to enhance the accuracy of measurement results. You can see the information needed in the Measurement Questionnaire section of the Developer Guide for details. While it's possible to provide results without the user profile and medical history questionnaires, we don't recommend it.

What parts of a person's face should be visible during a measurement? Is it possible to measure with make-up, eyeglasses, caps, turbans, hijab, facial hair etc.?

For a person facing the camera, we select facial landmarks in such a way that relevant regions-of-interest (ROIs) are usually not occluded. In situations where most ROIs do get occluded, results may be negatively affected. Additionally, the face-tracker used by TOI® may not work properly if glasses are worn or facial hair like a heavy beard is present. For optimal results, we recommend that you remove any major obstructions from your face, such as caps, heavy jewelry, glasses, heavy make-up etc.

My measurement had four stars but it still failed. What could cause this?

Star Rating is an estimate of overall optical quality. A high Star Rating will usually lead to a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), but in some circumstances this may not be the case. This is because Star Rating, which is computed on the device, depends on optical quality (image and camera characteristics), whereas SNR, which is computed on the DeepAffex® Cloud, depends upon the quality of blood-flow information which depends on more factors than just optical quality. We are working to improve the Star Rating to be a better indicator of signal quality.
