FAQs
Why does Ava sometimes make more mistakes than normal?
Ava processes speech best when the mouth of the person speaking is less than 12-inches from the mic connected to Ava. A Bluetooth mic will help isolate the speaking voice better. If using Ava in offline mode, try to find a location where internet is available. A stable internet connection will improve accuracy and latency. If you routinely use Ava for longer chats, for school or work, upgrade to a paid subscription for Premium or Scribe captions.
Can I use Ava on my computer?
Yes, Ava captions are available on a computer — web, Mac & Windows. Great for captioning online videos.
How do I use Ava?
Just open Ava and make sure the microphone is on (it is blue) and less than 12-inches from the mouth of the person speaking. Otherwise, tap on **Start Subtitles** at the bottom of the screen. Does Ava work with masks? What about social distancing?
Yes, Ava does work with masks. No more struggling to lip-read. If you are social distancing, either share your Ava room link so the person can use the mic on their phone to speak into [(no app download necessary)](https://intercom.help/ava/en/articles/3932314-don-t-want-to-ask-people-to-download-the-app-can-they-join-directly-from-their-mobile-phone#instant-conversations-from-mobile), or pass the person a [Bluetooth mic](https://intercom.help/ava/en/articles/3100058-which-microphone-wired-or-bluetooth-should-i-use-with-ava) to use.
What is a host and what is Scribe?
A host is a paid license assigned to an end-user for captioning online and in-person meetings or classes. The host includes an Ava Room that all meeting participants can join for free. How many hours should I get?
Ava's automated captions are included in each of our organizational plans and are always available for quick and spontaneous interactions, even in offline situations. For the most important situations (e.g. presentation, meeting), Scribe time should be added to the account. Per default our plans include 30 minutes of Scribe time. How much more you need, depends on the number of meetings you have on a daily, weekly, monthly basis?
What forms of payment do you accept?
Your custom electronic invoice can be paid by credit card or ACH transfer. If you would like a PO number added to your invoice, please let us know.
