Petey is an AI assistant for Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad. It allows users to interact with the GPT model directly from their Apple devices. Key features include creating playlists with Apple Music, viewing locations on Apple Maps, getting rich URL previews, and continuing conversations. Users can quickly get answers to questions or generate longer messages without typing. The app supports text-to-speech, multiple prompts, and GPT-4 (with in-app purchase). I've purchased Petey before, what changed for me?
Nothing should be changed, You should still be able to use Petey Basic for free on Apple Watch. If this is not the case, please reach out to me for help.
How do I get an API Key for OpenAI?
To get your own API key, sign up at OpenAI and follow theseinstructions. After getting your own API key, please follow these steps: Open Petey, Press on the Mascot's head to go to Settings, Go to API Key, Paste the API key you just created, Submit
My API Key isn't working
You need to set up a pay-as-you-go plan at OpenAI to make sure Petey will work with your API key. This is a requirement from OpenAI and is seperate from ChatGPT Plus.
Is Family Sharing enabled?
Yes! Petey is your new family member. Family Sharing is supported for the app AND for all in-app purchases. Sometimes, the App Store will still show a price tag when family members look at Petey. When they “buy” the app, the App Store will show a message that the app is free.
I have speech enabled but Petey won't talk! (watchOS)
First of all, please make sure you have mute/silent turned off. If Petey still doesn't talk, please follow these steps: Press the digital crown, Open the "Now Playing" app, Turn the digital crown up to eleven!, Try again in Petey
Is Petey available on iPhone?
Yes, you can download it from the App Store.
Why doesn’t Petey provide answers about recent events?
Petey’s knowledge is based on the text data that GPT-3.5 & GPT-4 was trained on, which has a cutoff date of September 2021. That means I can’t do real-time updates or information on recent sports, TV shows or any other events that happened after September of 2021.
How do I setup Petey to replace Siri?
After you’ve set up Petey for iOS you can open up the Shortcuts app and scroll down till you see Petey. Here you can use the shortcuts and setup the Siri phrases you’d like
Why do I need a subscription on iOS?
watchOS is designed for quick, glanceable interactions. I estimated that I can cover the costs of API calls in the Watch app with your purchase. On iOS, users are more likely to chat more with Petey, which brings for a lot more API calls. With a subscription, those costs are covered.
I’m subscribed to ChatGPT Plus on the web, do I need to subscribe again?
Yes, to use Petey on iOS I have to ask you to subscribe. OpenAI requires that I pay for usage of their source and API. Petey can only communicate with OpenAI if those costs are covered.
What’s the cheapest way to use Petey on iOS?
The cheapest way to use Petey on iOS, is to add your own OpenAI API key but the easiest way is to subscribe to Petey Premium. Visit the API Key section for instructions on how to get your own API key.
Can I use other models on the iOS app?
You can use all available ChatGPT models in Petey on iOS and iPadOS by subscribing to Petey Premium or by adding your own API key.
Is GPT-4 better?
It depends. GPT-4 can provide better and more accurate answers but it takes more time to answer than GPT-3.5.
Can I use my own language with Petey?
Absolutely! Petey speaks every language that ChatGPT supports. Even if the app's interface isn’t showing your language, you can enter text in whichever language feels good for you. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you!
Can I use voice by default on Apple Watch?
No, not right now. I haven't found a way to do this on watchOS yet. I'll keep exploring ways to do this. (Have any tips? Let me know!)
